Workshops and supervision
CPD is a way of enhancing your skills and knowledge. If you look at the members section of the STAT website you will see that the CPD committee has launched a new information pack. As member of the CPD committee I have been working, with Stephanie Smith, to develop guidelines for best practise regarding CPD and to create as many opportunities for members as possible.
The guidelines relate both to the suggested number of hours of CPD you do each year (currently 35 hours) and what is considered CPD.
Having helped create the guidelines I am now offering more CPD workshops and supervision.

Supervision
Dates: By arrangement
Venue: 50 Grantham Road Brighton BN1 6EF
Fees: £50 per hour
Supervision is a way of tailoring your development to enhance your teaching skills as an individual teacher. Each session lasts an hour (this can be longer by arrangement) and can combine the following elements to suit individual needs.
- SWOT discussion analysis of your teaching! This means identifying Strengths, Weaknesses, Opportunities and Threats. It sounds fierce but is a very useful way of focusing the supervision sessions to get the most benefit. SWOT can be reviewed occasionally to see what has changed.
- Practical work based on a particular aspect of teaching. For example your SWOT may reveal (or you simply know!) that you don’t enjoy taking legs, perhaps you find them too heavy or you are not sure how to deal with people with hip pain. We can explore different ways of taking legs and what the considerations are.
- Working on your own use. This is similar to a lesson but is focussed around a particular issue (perhaps YOUR legs!)
- Bring a pupil. You can use supervision to bring a pupil to work on and gain extra insight into how to support their learning (and your own).
Supervision sessions can be individual or shared between 2 teachers who would like to work together regularly in this way. To get the most benefit from supervision, consider it as an on-going process.

Post-Graduate Students
We are happy to take post-graduate students as part of the main training course whenever there is space available. A graduate student can attend for any period from a few days to a term or more, and will be included in the daily timetable in the same way as other students. Whenever the graduate student receives individual attention from one of the teachers the work will, of course, be adapted to the graduate student's interests and level of experience.
This is an excellent way for teachers trained elsewhere to deepen their understanding and extend their skills.
