The Brighton Alexander Technique College is a Carrington style-training course, evolving our practice from the renowned skills of Walter & Dilys Carrington. Read about Dilys's work
Carolyn Nicholls, Head of Training, was privileged to have been trained by Walter and Dilys Carrington at the Constructive Teaching Centre in London, qualifying in 1982, she undertook a Masters' degree in Alexander Teacher Training and examined and deepened the skills she learned. She also holds a Master's degree in Creative Writing. Carolyn brings these skills to all her work and offers courses in AT and creativity. Carolyn is supported by a first class teaching team. Francesca Aldridge and Janet Jacobs are both named assistants on the course; senior teacher Teresa Carter Johnstone and teacher Sarah Matthews complete the team.
"Earlier this year, I participated in two weekend workshops run by Carolyn Nicholls in Melbourne, Australia. I’m currently in my second year of Alexander teacher training at the Melbourne school, and her workshops have made such a difference to my understanding and practice of the technique, both in my own use, and as a trainee. It’s been quite difficult for me to fully capture in words the huge impact her training has had on my Alexander education. The depth and breadth of her knowledge and teaching skills is extraordinary, and I learned so much about some of the fundamental teaching tools, for example hands on the back of the chair, and lying in semi-supine position. I also loved her powerful recreation of passages of Alexander’s books, as she provided a rich context for his words. Carolyn is such a generous, warm, and wonderful teacher, and I loved every minute of my time with her. I’m already planning how to get myself over to England to do more work with her next year." Carolyn combines the richness of her experience with fresh and innovative ways of teaching. It was very exciting to be taught by a teacher who was intensely involved with the Technique and was constantly discovering new aspects of it herself. Padmini Menon (Alexander Teacher- Bangalore, India)
The course has a clear and structured framework that is built on month after month, year after year. I strongly recommend this school to anyone. Susan Taber (Alexander Teacher- Rye)
